It is a special kind of topic for me - the breed standard. I will not quote it here, since it can be read both on many websites, in all breed books and naturally on the website of the Golden Retriever Clubs all over the world. However I think it is remarkable that the breed standard as I know never changed. And from my personal view nevertheless 3 groups developed . One is the Field Trial Golden which corresponds in the very most cases also still today purely optically the breed standard from the years in those the breed of the Golden had been developed. Pictures from books where those history around Lord Tweedmouth is described, show that sufficiently and the champions up to the fities if the 20. Century also maintained this appearance. In this time there have been Goldens FT Champion and Show Champion, thus the often mentioned Dual Poorpose Golden Retriever. In the following years a development took place, which brought th Show Golden Retriever whicht is established in the meantime. Brawnier, shorter legsr, with often snow-white coat. The division in Show and Working bloodlines was fulfilled. There is a great number of the above mentioned Show-Golden, which show fantastic results in huntig and also in wokingtests or in the employment as a rescue dog. And thus still show the qualities which distinguished their ancestors. Unfortunately a trend shows up in addition, which I feel personally as precarious, because increasingly one meets fantastically beautiful and in fact empty-headed Golden, which are not willing any longer work with or for its humans, not to mention to retrieve a dummy. And I do not speak of the dogs those which have been broken of retrieveing from their owners. These dogs do have surely their right to exist however they should be named - here I would like to quote a well-known coach - Golden Companion Dog not Golden Retriever. |
